Paper Problems :(

One of my biggest problems in my paper is the organization of it becasue I sometimes get off my main topic. I really need to think about the main idea for my paper so that when I am writing I can stick to that one point and not go off about other unrelated things. I need to go into more detail with the main scene in my paper and give a better explanation of what it is about. I need to figure out how I am going to arrange all my ideas and make them fit into my main topic. Another problem I am having is getting good resources for the topic of my paper. I am trying to look for some quotations that have to do with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. My main focus of my paper is how vampires are different and what makes it ok to kill them. If anyone has seen anything good can you let me know!!

  1. Some potential quotes/scenes

From "Villains": Buffy says, "Being a slayer doesn't give me a license to kill."

From "Bad Girls": Buffy says, "Faith, you don't get it. You killed a man." And Faith replies, "No, you don't get it. I don't care!"

  2. I also have that problem. I seem to have too many topics. I try to explain them all and I need to just focus on one main one. Maybe that will help?

  3. Sounds like you have the answer to your own problems you just need to kind of do it. I know it's hard keep on track when you you might be striving to fill up paper but you just have to keep it relevant

  4. I think it is really tough and common to see people struggling to stay on topic. Confucious says: After short periods of writing, read back what you have and go from there.

  5. I like your topic; I think it's controversial and thought provoking enough to really make people think. As far as organization, I'd recommend that you try to find connections within your sources in sort of abstract ways. I think a lot of times, we can get hung-up because our sources are not explicitly connected. But a lot of times, this is actually better than sources that are obviously related. I had a simliar problem with my paper, and when i took a step back and rethought the situation, I realized that my sources were more supportive of my thesis than I originally thought.

  6. The vampire's are only killed once they have revealed their true form. At least in buffy. This perhaps represent the dark side of humanity that we all have in us. Don't know if that helps.

  7. When I need to organize my ideas I write them down. Main idea in a circle in the middle, and supporting ideas and evidence as branches. And I give those branches, little supporting detail branches of their own. It is a good animationg to refer back to as your write your paper.

  8. You might be able to draw a connection between your point of why it's okay to kill vampires and the death penalty. Maybe look at why people might think it's okay to kill murderers and translate that to the situation with vampires.

  9. It's always helpful to have a good summary of the primary source your using. In our case the show episode or scene. You might want to try to tie every source to your primary source in the paragraphs so you know what your trying to prove and you can stay on topic more.
